Born and raised in a small coastal New England town, it was only natural that I grew up with a love of the outdoors and fishing in particular. As a young boy, my playground was the Ipswich River,
the town wharf, and the tidal marshes along the shore of the river. Later the coastal beaches and waters of Ipswich Bay were added to my sanctum.
Also, as a young teenager, for spending money I would dig clams, work on a lobster boat, and in the fall of the year torch for herring at night. On Saturdays and Sundays, in season, I would work on the party boats. Party boats were a precursor to charter boats.
Later, in my teens, I joined the Navy and before I realized it had completed a 20-year career. While in the Navy, I had the good fortune of traveling extensively, but I always had my fishing gear with me. Whenever possible
and duty allowed I would go fishing, sometimes fresh water, other times salt water.
My true passion with fishing is finding a new lake or river and sorting out the puzzle of how to catch whatever fish lives there. For me, my passion for hunting parallels my passion for fishing. I will hunt with a gun, but bow hunting, for the most part dominates my interest in hunting.
For about the last fifteen years, my nephew Matt Pelton, has been and continues to be my fishing partner. Together we have fished in Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Canada, and South Carolina, extensively.
